Rated 4 out of 5 by from [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given these shields from the lactation consultant and without them my bub wouldn't latch. After a little bit of use they have caused a bit of rubbing on the nipple. They have really helped with my flat nipples and to teach bub how to latch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A necessity for me [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The medela nipple shields have been extremely helpful for me and my bub. He started using them when he was a premmie bub to help draw the milk out. and we have continued to use one. It hasn't affected supply. The only downside is I have to hold them on otherwise the sides peel off but I'm now used to doing that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nipple shield [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was recommended to purchase a size up which fit me well as your nipples tend to enlarge during feeding but I found it to be too big for bub and he struggled to feed with the shield. It did protect my sore nipples though and definitely slowed the flow of milk.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very thin [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've only had to use a nipple shield a handful of times while feeding my two children, but ended up being given a few different brands to try. I found the Medela nipple shields to be super thin and flexible, which made them a bit easier to get on correctly. It also felt a bit softer for baby's mouth compared to a few other brands. Easy to clean and the storage container is very handy to throw in the nappy bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really helpful at the beginning of Breastfeeding [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given couple of Medela shields at hospital when my son was born. We were having a bit of difficulties with breastfeed in the firsts days. These shields were my saviours in the early stages of breastfeeding. My son could feed better, more efficiently and it was less painful for me. I didn't need to use them for long as we got better at breastfeeding over the days but definitely a great helper for the early phase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product for alleviating sore nipples [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I only used these with one of my children when I was having feeding problems and to be honest, they didn't really help. However, I think that was due to the nature of the problem and not necessarily the product. The product takes some practice to position and use right, but becomes easier once you know what you're doing. It takes baby a while to work out how to use them as well. These are particularly useful if you have sore, cracked nipples.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Helped with breastfeeding [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this shield at the hospital after suffering from terribly sore and cracked nipples early on. Using the shield helped me to continue to breastfeed as well as allowing my nipples time to heal. The shield also helped with a flat nipple issue. It is great that these are available in various sizes to suit all nipple sizes, is thin & easy to keep clean.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good nipple shield [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used these nipples shields for both my breastfeeding journeys with boys, I struggled with latching them both and this was recommended by my midwife. I used it for a while I liked that it helped with latching at times but it also would pop off sometimes or was hard to put on. It definitely helped more with my second son than with my first. It continued my journey for a little while until I had to give up due to my milk supply. Pretty good product but does have its weaknesses.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tried but didn’t like [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We tried this with the recommendation from our lactation consultant as Bub wasn’t able to latch. Unfortunately, these didn’t work and my Bub hated the texture in her mouth. It didn’t fit properly even after being shown how to put it on and the milk was pooling in the shield itself. They were quite expensive so was disappointed I wasn’t able to use them as much asI’d like. Thankfully Bub is able to latch now.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hit and miss at times [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was recommended these nipple shields when I had cracked nipples as a result of breastfeeding. Bub was having issues latching and the midwife suggested these. Whilst they did relieve the latching pain, I found them to pinch at times and bub struggled to get milk after the initial letdown. They had their pros and cons but in the end I fed without them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Tried but Bub didn’t like it [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I had really sore nipples the child health nurse gifted me a pair of these nipple shields. I tried them and they helped with the pain, but I found that Bub was struggling to get milk when I used them. When I stoped he was able to get a better latch and I haven’t had to use them since.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Thoughtful gift [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These nipple shields were a gift from a friend who had a baby 4 months earlier than me and had tried so many because her baby wouldn’t latch. These worked for her and she got a pack for me when I told her about sore nips. I tried them for a few days and it definitely helped but my baby did not like the feel of silicone although it’s very thin, he would just refuse to feed, also I feel he wasn’t getting enough milk through the shield and would thus get frustrated. I then used these once in a while when nipples were too sore but not for long

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought these as I was recommended this brand and one other in my antenatal classes. I don’t have an issue with the quality and many of my mum friends use them but I personally couldn’t get bub to use them very often. I’m sure if my nipples were sore enough in newborn days we would have made it work. Make sure you buy the right size! These were a bit small for me

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not working [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got given a few of these from my hospital visit. They said that it would work with practise and if your baby is used to the bottle already. For me it didn't help as my baby could not draw out the nipple when using it. It does prevent discomfort as a barrier.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Will work for some [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first 2 weeks of breastfeeding were the most painful so I got these shields. I was also using lanisoh and the shields would slide a bit because of it. I found that it was a bit hard to clean the ointment off the shields afterwards. I may have got the wrong size as there was a bit of space between nipple and shield so I wasn't confident using them while feeding. The case that comes with it is very handy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The hospital supplied me with these when that awful feeding pain kicked in to relieve the pain and make feeding more comfortable: I was always skeptical ical of these because I worried baby would prefer this to my actual nipple. This was never the case but it was a lot of extra effort putting them on. I preferred just to stick through the pain and feed bub quickly. Love that it’s soft bpa free plastic though

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Helped my nipples [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These shields helped my nipples heaps when they were badly cracked. I got to a stage where I could only feed using these as it was too painful to feed without them and they stopped the bleeding. Bub latched well at first with them but started fussing after a couple of days.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Didn't help me. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had very cracked sore nipples when I first began breastfeeding so I got some of these to help ease the pain. Unfortunately they weren't very helpful for me. Even the smallest size was too big as I have quite small nipples and when baby was sucking the milk would just pool behind them or they would come off

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not my favourite [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got these nipple shields as it was The only way I could get Bub to latch. After using a different brand I tried these ones and they just didn’t feel as comfortable or had the same a latch for Bub. I did like how they are bent at the top so that the silicone isn’t in bubs nose and I liked the packaging to store them in.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for me [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried these in my first two weeks of breastfeeding, I was struggling for me it was so painful, I tried these and although they helped! They were just so awkward for me to use and Bub would only feed for a few seconds and then would come off, I ended up not using them and after two weeks my boobs/ nipples had adjusted to feeding

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't work for us [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I went to a private lactation, because I had a painful nipple, and she suggested me to use a Medela nipple shield when I breastfed my bub, unfortunately, it didn't work for us, my nipple was more painful than before, and my bub didn't want to suck with it. This shield is thin, soft, has a great quality, and comes with a case.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Useless [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] One of the many items you buy in rush or desperation. This nipple shield was of no use at all and not comfortable either. It is easy to clean and store as it comes with a small container. Easily available in big stores like Baby bunting which stocks most Medela products.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn’t work for me [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great concept and I’m sure other mums have success with it, however my little one hated the nipple shields and would not nurse at all. The nipple shields are made from a soft silicone material and can be fitted easily. The also come in a handy cover which means they stay clean whilst you’re out and about.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like that the shields come in a handy case. They fitted well and were ok to wear. Babies latched well but they were so tiny (under 2kg) that sucking was hard and tiring for them. Rather than do breast feeds we started doing bottle feeds to top up tube feeds so I only used these shields a few times. I have had a friend use these and she found that they didn't suit her as she has a large bust.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I personally didn't think these were great when I had my newborn. In saying that I had a very small baby (2.5kg) and no problems latching. But when I tried to use the shields with her I found her sucking wasn't strong enough to draw the milk. Maybe for a larger bub they may work better.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a fan [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My nipples got extremely sore and cracked when I was breastfeeding. I bought this shield and had a difficult time with it. It was hard for me to line up the nipple, it didn't stay in place well, and bub couldn't get a good latch and I stopped using it after the first time. Not worth the high price of it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lauren [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I brought these shields when i had sore cracked nipples from breastfeeding my little girl constantly. Unfortunately they where not helpful for me as my baby would not latch on properly while I was using them. They are a great idea tho and come with a handy carry case which was useful.
Date published: 2019-11-17
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't work for us [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the Medela nipple shield when my son started getting teeth and chomping down when we were feeding (he got teeth fairly early). Unfortunately the shield didn't work for us - he just would not latch on and suck properly. I'm sure it is a good product if your baby latches properly. I liked that it can with a little box for storing the shield

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Waste of money for me [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this while still in the hospital after a few days of giving birth. I had extremely sore nipples from constant breastfeeding and was hoping that these would help. Unfortunately when I put it on baby wouldn’t latch at all. She would turn her head away and cry. I only used it a couple of times and just for nipple protection only when i wear bra during the early days.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not For Me [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this when my nipples were extremely sore and cracked from breastfeeding earlier on. It did not work for me and bubs fussed a lot. I found that it got in the way of obtaining a proper latch. It is quite an expensive product. In theory it sounds great. Perhaps with a little tweak it will work better.
