For those who smoke less than 20 cigarettes a day.
There are two programs to use:
Program A: If you would like to stop smoking completely before starting the program:
1. Use one gum when you feel the urge to smoke. Do not exceed 20 gums in a day.
2. After around 3 months, gradually cut down the amount of
gum you chew each day.
3. When you are down to 1 - 2 pieces per day, you can stop using Nicotinell Gum. This should be possible within 6 months from the start of treatment.
Program B: If you cannot stop smoking completely before
starting the program:
1. When you feel the urge to smoke, you may chew one gum
slowly instead of smoking a cigarette.
2. Gradually increase gum use, while cutting down smoking. Do not exceed 20 gums in a day.
3. When you have cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke to a level you feel you can quit completely, follow Program A above.
4. If you have not cut down the number of cigarettes you smoke each day after 6 weeks, see your doctor or pharmacist.
How do I use Nicotinell Gum?
1. Place one gum in your mouth and chew slowly until the taste becomes strong.
2. 'Park' the gum between your gum and cheek to absorb the nicotine.
3. When the taste has faded chew again, repeat the process for around 30 minutes.
Most people use 8-12 pieces of the 2 mg gum or 4-6 pieces of the 4 mg gum in a day. Do not use more than 20 pieces of the 2 mg gum or 10 pieces of the 4 mg gum in a day.
NICOTINELL NICOTINE PATCH + GUM OR LOZENGE in Combination
Nicotinell Patches provide a controlled dose of nicotine throughout the day, however when the cravings hit hard, you may need an extra dose of nicotine. For a fast craving hit, try adding Nicotinell Gum 2 mg, or for something longer lasting, combine Nicotinell Patches with Nicotinell Lozenges 2 mg.
You can combine Nicotinell Patches 21 mg with Nicotinell Gum 2 mg or Nicotinell Lozenges 2 mg.
How do iI use the combination of nicotine (Suggestion only: Remove nicotine and replace with Nicotinell) patch + gum or lozenge?
Use each product as directed for 12 weeks.
After 12 weeks, you should wean yourself off nicotine replacement therapy. There are two options:
1. Stop the patch and gradually reduce the gum or lozenge until they are no longer needed.
2. Continue using the same number of pieces of gum or lozenge and reduce to the Step 2 patch for 3-4 weeks. Then use the Step 3 patch for 3-4 weeks. When the patch is no longer needed gradually reduce the number of pieces of gum or lozenge until you no longer need them.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Keep the gum in the blister pack inside the carton until you are
ready to use it.
If you take the gum out of its blister pack, it may not keep well.
Store the gums in a cool dry place where the temperature stays
below 25°C.
Do not store it or any other medicine in the bathroom or near
a sink.
Do not leave it in the car or on windowsills.
Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines.
Keep it where children cannot reach it.
A locked cupboard at least one-and-a-half metres above the ground
is a good place to store medicines.
