Frequently Asked Questions

Are all irons the same?

No, they are not. When taking an iron supplement, it is important to check the amount of elemental iron per dose. Many supplements containing iron have only small amounts of elemental iron per dose, often less than 24mg. These are dietary supplements and are not intended for the treatment of iron deficiency.

Is Maltofer suitable for pregnancy?

If your iron causes constipation, try Maltofer. Maltofer is suitable for use in pregnancy. Maltofer has been used for over 50 years to correct iron levels in pregnant women. Clinical studies have shown that Maltofer correct iron deficiency in pregnant women with significantly fewer gastrointestinal side effects.**

Is Maltofer suitable for vegans and vegetarians?

Yes, Maltofer is suitable for vegans and vegetarians as it contains no ingredients of animal origin.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE.

General Information

Maltofer is an oral iron therapy for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency in adults and adolescents where the use of ferrous iron supplements is not tolerated or is otherwise inappropriate. Maltofer is less likely to cause constipation compared to ferrous sulfate iron.

Australia's No.1 selling therapeutic oral iron^, Maltofer has fewer gastrointestinal side effects and is less likely to cause constipation compared to ferrous sulfate iron. This means less constipation, less nausea, and an effective dose of iron. The absorption of iron from Maltofer takes place by a controlled mechanism. Maltofer does not release large amounts of iron at once, which is why it is less likely to cause gastrointestinal side effects like constipation. Maltofer's active ingredient, iron polymaltose, ensures your body only absorbs the iron it needs when it is needed, providing reliable correction of iron levels.

Maltofer is for the treatment of iron deficiency in adults and adolescents where the use of ferrous iron supplements is not tolerated, or otherwise inappropriate. For the prevention of iron deficiency in adults and adolescents determined by a medical practitioner to be at high-risk, where the use of ferrous iron supplements is not tolerated, or otherwise inappropriate. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gentle and Effective I've tried quite a few iron supplements but this is my favourite. Both me and my mum take these, however we only have half a pill a day so we cant comment on the proper recommended dosage unfortunately. I've always been iron deficient and this supplement does a great job at keeping those iron deficiency symptoms at bay, it makes a big difference to how i feel. I have had no unpleasant side effects with these, but as i said i only take half a day so that may be due to my low dosage.

Only noticeable side affect is makes stools very dark.

The only down side is your stool color changes. But otherwise no major side effect which is good. Will keep taking it for couple of more months before getting blood tests done again. Hopefully it will lift my s ferritin which is too low.
