What is WAXSOL®?

Waxsol Ear Drops 0.5% 10mL

Waxsol® is an effective and convenient water-based solution used to treat the build up of ear wax with just one application per night over 2 nights. The active ingredient, docusate sodium, softens and breaks up ear wax that has become hard, making it easier to remove.9

Eardrops such as WAXSOL are recommended as a first approach to help remove ear wax build up.10-11
Using WAXSOL as soon as any symptoms of wax build up are noticed may help to avoid the need for ear syringing and may improve the success of syringing, if required11

What is ear wax?

Ear wax or cerumen as it's known by its medical name, is not so much wax a concoction of dry skin cells, hair fibres, fatty acids and sweat secretions produced in the outer area of our ear canal.7-8, 12

What causes ear wax build up?
The ear naturally expels ear wax through the movement of the jaw, in actions such as talking and however, some people produce more ear wax than others. When this happens, an excess or even blockage of cerumen can occur in the ear, leading to some irritating and sometimes painful symptoms Other causes of excessive ear wax include attempting to clean the ear with cotton swabs or a finger. Indeed, many people realise that the shape of the ear canal makes it difficult to manually clean and inserting a foreign object into the ear is not recommended as it can push the wax further into the ear causing a blockage Similarly, you are also more likely to experience excessive ear wax if you regularly use hearing aids or headphones.

Keep things out! The number one rule to avoid an ear wax build-up is never to stick anything into your ears, including cotton tips and fingers.2,4-6

Clean ears with a damp cloth simply by wiping the outside ear every few days and ensure ears are always dry.5

Directions

• Fill the dropper from the bottle.
• Tilt your head to one side.
• Gently drip WAXSOL into your blocked ear until it is full.
• Place a cotton wool plug in the ear. The best time to do
this is before you go to bed.
• Only use the drops for 2 nights at a time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Immediate effect My son had chronic ear wax. We'd been trying to soften it using olive and coconut oil, but it wasn't effective enough. Waxsol worked overnight with obvious effect. For us, it must be used in conjunction with ear syringing at the local doctors, as it doesn't bring the wax out of the canal, but it definitely softens it enough to make that process possible. We're hoping that with continued use, perhaps it will also limit the need for ear irrigation.
