Common Uses

Eight Hour® Cream Skin Protectant is the legendary skincare formula created in 1930 by Miss Arden to soothe and protect skin. An instant, overwhelming success, the Eight Hour® brand continues its legacy today. Celebrated by makeup artists and beauty influencers around the globe, its wonderful versatility and proven results have elevated it to “cult status” in the beauty industry.
DID YOU KNOW?
The name Eight Hour® was coined by a devoted Elizabeth Arden client who used the cream on her child’s grazed knee, and ”eight hours later”, it was magically better.

Ingredients

Eight Hour Cream's apricot colored balm is so effective due to its combination of petrolatum, a skin-soothing beta-hydroxy and vitamin E. This remarkable protectant promotes healthy looking skin and seals in moisture. Petrolatum: A universally acknowledged intensive moisturizer that also soothes and protects the skin. Salicylic Acid: A beta hydroxy acid pioneered by Elizabeth Arden over seventy years ago. It gently exfoliates to encourage smoother skin. Vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate): Acts as an antioxidant to help protect the skin from free-radical damage. It is easily absorbed by the skin and has soothing properties. Active Ingredient: (Each gram contains) Petrolatum 568 Mg (Skin Protectant) Inactive Ingredients: Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Tocopherol, BHT, Salicylic Acid, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Vegetable Oil, Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, Fragrance, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Propylparaben, Iron Oxides

Directions

8 WAYS TO USE EIGHT HOUR®
Apply head-to-toe to seal in moisture and experience hours of hydrated, healthy-looking skin with each use.
1 .AT FACE VALUE: Simply rub a dime-sized amount in the palms of hands to warm through, then pat onto the face to seal in moisture.
2. COMES IN HANDY: Deeply condition by working the formula into palms and over the fingers, then wrapping each hand for 10 minutes in a warm towel.
3. HEEL-TO-TOE HEALING: Relieve weary feet by massaging the cream generously onto soles, pads and heels, then topping with cotton socks for deeper moisturisation to heal dry skin.
4. A FLASH OF BRILLIANCE: Create instant radiance wherever skin normally catches the light, including legs, shoulders, collarbone, cheeks and bow of the lips.
5. LAVISH THE LIPS: With its effective moisturising ingredients, this do-it-all wonder perfectly re-hydrates chapped lips.
6. THE MANE BENEFITS: In addition to its properties as a “skin savior,” the cream’s petrolatum and natural lanolin help smooth strands and moisturise dry ends.
7 FROST SMITTEN: It can be smoothed onto skin as protection from windburn, particularly when adventuring outdoors.
8 KEEPING IT HIGH-BROW: Run the tiniest amount through eyebrows to groom hairs, helping neaten and define the arch.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective, but overpowering smell. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is effective for dry patches that have failed other creams, however I still have the same tube after 4 years as I can only use it occasionally, due to its smell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic ointment, the smell grows on you! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this, I got onto it by reading about Posh Spice's love for this product (sad but true!). It has an interesting smell, and I wasn't expecting it to be dark orange, however the gel-type consistency is fantastic, and suitable for many areas of the face. I get slightly dry elbows and I find it fantastic for that too, and it doesn't cause a skin irritation, unlike some other options. It is a fair bit more expensive than say Vaseline, however the tube lasts a long time, and fits in my handbag nicely.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from alright as a lip balm [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This stuff to me smells absolutely disgusting and I hate getting tastes of it on my lips. I bought it after a friend recommended it to me because I felt my paw paw ointment wasn't really working for me any more. This stuff is pretty good but I do prefer other products. It definitely does moisturise the skin but so do other products and smell a lot better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A great healer [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have to agree with many of the other reviewers who said that this is an ointment rather than a cream. Although 8 hour cream is not the sort of thing I'd use as a moisturiser(it has no water content, and therefore will never absorb) I have used it to heal the marks left by the odd pimple on my face. It's also really, really good for wound healing (according to legend that's how got it's name...by healing a graze on a boy's knee in eight hours!). It's also great for fading scars. The lanolin smell doesn't really worry me, but the 'flavor' can be a bit strong if used on the lips. The only downside for me would have to be that it contains a paraben preservative. All-in-all though, it's a must-have!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from There's a reason everyone raves about this... [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] ...yes, this balm is brilliant on cuticles, elbows, knees, flyawair hair and chapped lips and yes, I would recomment it to people going to the snow or mountain hiking but not as a moisturiser (it's been known to happen) - it's just too heavy for that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cult Classic [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love using Eight Hour Cream for when I get very dry areas of skin. I have a mini tube that I use as a lip balm in winter and I also rub some on the soles of my feet as an overnight treatment. It is too rich and a little greasy for me to use as a regular moisturiser or hand cream.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from uses. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I found this cream worked really well to replenish lips, or when you have a flaky peice of skin that wont sit well under make up, so soften it up. I used it on my cheeks as a sheen, but i felt it was too thick and oily to do so.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from a bit too greasy [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] i bought this after my friend raved about the 8 hr cream range. It is a nice rich protectant however i do find it too greasy, i only use this cream before bed (on my feet, elbows and lips) it wouldnt be something i would apply before leaving the house. i probably would buy this product again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great do it all wonder ointment I agree with emilyhollywood on this one. It's a great do it all product and isn't meant to be used as a general handcream. I've still got a tube of this and I always buy one.<br /> Its used as a barrier cream on your hands if you wash them all the time and really good if you have extremely dry almost bleeding hands; then you can apply this to the cracks and it softens and dry and stops that dry painful feeling.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is an ointment, not a cream. Great for chappe I've always wanted to try this product since eons ago as I've read about its cult following in beauty magazines and wanted to know what all the fuss was all about. So I finally bough a limited edition jar when it was on sale at my chemist last year to satisfy my curiosity. It is very misleading to be calling this an 8 hour cream, as it is NOT a cream in texture at all. This is an ointment. In fact, it reminds me alot like Vaseline. They have the same ingredients - petrolatum. Here is the full ingredients listing: Petrolatum 56.8%,Lanolin, Mineral Oil, Fragrance, Salicylic Acid, Propylparaben, Castor Oil, Corn Oil, Tocopherol, BHT, Iron Oxides This is good for chapped or cracked lips, grazed skin, dry cracked heels and rough hands and elbows. It is too greasy to apply all over skin, even as an overnight treatment but I like using it to hide my dry flaky patches after I've applied makeup and the flakes are showing on my cheeks. A little dab and lightly patted into skin the flake is gone. Other comparable products is obviously the cheaper Vaseline or Lucas Papaw ointment. For the price, I didn't think it was more effective than the much cheaper Lucas Papaw Ointment as I found they both did the job just as effectively. I like this Eight Hour Cream, I'm glad I bought it and I know what the fuss is all about now but I will not be repurchase after I finish this up - there are better products out their for the price.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Eh... so-so I purchased this (my first high end buy!) after reading amazing thing about it from celebs I aspire to, beauty mags, and even family members. But honestly, I wasn't overwhelmed, wasn't underwhelmed, I was merely "whelmed." I purchased it to mainly use as a lip balm (with other uses as needed), but found myself using it sparingly, and not just because of the price. I found the smell to be a bit overpowering for me, and it was quite thick on application. It had a very 'ointment' vibe about it, I didn't like it as a gloss at all. It did help with other uses like on dry skin and on cuts and sores, but I can find other products for under $10 that do the same thing. I wouldn't purchase it again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little meh. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is ok, but I don't think it quite lives up to the hype. I like to use it as a foot moisturiser, I rub it right in then put socks on overnight, but for my elbows and knees I find it a little too sticky, plus my sheets get little oily patches from it. I personally don't love it as a lip cream as it simply doesn't absorb, but have used it as a highlighter and to smooth my eyebrows. I've been working on my tube for over two years now....if it was all it was cracked up to be, then I think I'd use it more.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from More an ointment, less of a hand cream [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first thing I noticed about this was the smell. It smells like a medicinal ointment, which wasnt very nice. Texture wise it feels like a very thick ointment. I used it as a hand cream and I had to really work it into the skin otherwise it would have just sat on the surface. Even then it just felt like I had on some kind of thick glove, it felt very thick even then and very very sticky (which I hate). I don't think I'll be using this as a hand cream. I've also tried applying it on my cuticles/elbows/knees/feet before bed and I have to say I prefer using it this way. Because it is so thick and sticky it doesnt wear off very easily so when I wake up in the morning the areas where I applied it were quite soft.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cult classic [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a classic for a reason - it really is a nice ointment & apparently will reduce the healing time of a burn rather rapidly. I know older ladies who slather their faces in this, but quite simply it's like a poshed up version of vaseline, so there's no way my (oily) skin could handle that! I was using it on my lips / nails etc until i realised I was using a rather expensive product to do the job that vaseline can do, so i stopped, so as not to waste it, & now unsure as to what to use it for otherwise ha! It's in a tube & comes in different sizes which is handy, but otherwise I'll be sticking with the vaseline for a much more ecconomical price ;)
